Luqman Hassan, a member of the Kurdish Azadi Movement, asserted that the Zaidi movement’s efforts to combat corruption and apprehend those who steal public funds are not free from American interference. He questioned why previous governments failed to address such issues throughout the past period.
Hassan told Al-Maalouma, “The Zaidi movement’s efforts to combat corruption and arrest some thieves represent a historical turning point given the political circumstances, the situation the country has experienced, the ongoing war in the region, and its repercussions on Iraq.” He pointed out that “this movement is not free from American interference.”
He added, “Previous governments since 2003 have not opened corruption files, and this raises many questions about this cover-up and silence regarding corruption and the theft of public funds.”
He explained that “most citizens’ transactions in government departments cannot be completed without paying bribes, and all officials know and are aware of what is happening in these departments, but without any action to combat corruption and eliminate these phenomena.”
