Political expert Mohammed al-Dhari revealed on Friday that Iraqi oil smuggling to Turkey is part of a political and commercial deal orchestrated by the ruling family in the Kurdistan Region, in exchange for legitimizing the Turkish military’s incursion into northern Iraq.
Al-Dhari explained in a statement to Al-Maalouma News Agency that “the agreements allow the ruling family in the region to achieve huge profits amounting to more than $200 million per month, while granting Turkey the right to conduct military incursions into northern Iraq,” stressing that “these deals are conducted secretly and without the involvement of the Baghdad government.”
He added, “Türkiye played a role in saving the Kurdistan Regional Government from economic collapse in recent years, taking advantage of the rampant corruption in the local administration.”
