An informed source revealed, on Sunday, details of a series of secret contacts between Muhammad al-Halbousi and the Governor of Basra, Asaad al-Eidani, with the aim of coordinating their positions and preparing the atmosphere for a regional declaration in the near future.
The source told Al-Maalouma: “In these secret talks, Al-Halbousi and Al-Eidani discussed plans to achieve unification and coordination of the positions of the announcement of the Basra and Anbar provinces, and it is expected that this announcement will be made with international support and a direct influence on the internal affairs of these two provinces.”
He added, “The initial steps include mobilizing public opinion, forming a common vision, and organizing tribal and political conferences,” noting that “despite the presence of objections from some political and tribal figures, there is a determination to implement the project despite the expected challenges.”
The source confirmed that “these contacts were carried out with direct and undeclared support from the United States and Britain, in addition to the support of some Gulf countries.”
