Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian announced on Thursday that he would meet with Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei, while stressing that he would not enter into any negotiations with the United States regarding the Strait of Hormuz before the lifting of the naval blockade on Iran.
Pezeshkian said in press statements that his recent meeting with Mojtaba Khamenei lasted more than two hours in an atmosphere he described as “based on trust and direct dialogue.”
He added that Iran is under external pressure to increase economic pressure, destabilize the country internally, and weaken national cohesion, explaining that the goal of this pressure is to create a state of public discontent, push people to take to the streets, and weaken the structure of government.
Pezeshkian explained that the “enemy” targeted police stations and economic facilities with the war in order to create internal chaos and the collapse of the country.
US President Donald Trump announced on Wednesday that “very good talks” had taken place with Iran in the past 24 hours, and that an agreement was very likely, adding, “I think we have won with Iran.”
American media outlets reported that US-Iranian negotiations may resume next week in Islamabad, coinciding with the Iranian Foreign Ministry’s confirmation that messages are still being exchanged through the Pakistani mediator.
