The Parliamentary Services Committee revealed, on Saturday, the desire of more than 100 international companies to be part of the Development Road project in Iraq.
Committee member, MP Baqir Al-Saadi, told Al-Maalomah, “The Development Road project is a strategic project that starts from the Grand Faw Port towards the Iraqi-Turkish border and from there to Europe. It is expected to change the global maritime transport compass by 15 to 20%, while reducing the distance of transporting goods from Southeast Asia and India to Europe by 60-65% in terms of time, and reducing the cost by no less than 50%.”
Al-Saadi added that “the project includes the construction of roads and railways, and enables Iraq’s economic potential to be transformed into industrial zones and free trade cities, with expectations that it will have major economic dimensions for the country.”
