Deputy Chairman of the Parliamentary Services and Reconstruction Committee, MP Baqir Al-Saadi, revealed on Tuesday that Mosul International Airport will enter into actual operation on June 10, while pointing to plans to establish three new airports in Iraq during 2026. Al-Saadi stated that the completion rate at Mosul Airport has exceeded 90% and that the pace of work is steadily increasing to complete the project on time. He pointed out that the airport has been completely rebuilt after its destruction in the 2014 events and will be qualified to receive domestic and international flights according to the standards of the Civil Aviation Authority.
He also indicated that Nasiriyah and Karbala airports are currently under construction, confirming a plan to begin construction of three new airports in 2026 as part of a strategy aimed at expanding the air transport map and easing pressure on Baghdad and Basra airports, in addition to enhancing domestic and international air traffic.
The Ministry of Transport recently announced that Mosul Airport is 87% complete and confirmed that the opening date will be June 10, under the direction of the Prime Minister. Technical coordination will continue to ensure the project is completed in a manner befitting Nineveh Governorate.
