Member of the Parliamentary Security and Defense Committee, Ali Al-Bandawi, confirmed today, Wednesday, that Iraq is fully committed to the timetable set for the withdrawal of international coalition forces from the country, noting that the withdrawal decision was agreed upon in advance and there is no room for backtracking on it.
Al-Bandawi said in a statement to Al-Maalouma Agency, “The Iraqi government has previously talked about this issue and a time limit was set for the withdrawal, and there is no need to return to talk about it again after the matter has been settled.”
He added, “Work is continuing according to the decision announced by the government and there is no change in this direction,” stressing that “the security forces and the Popular Mobilization Forces are ready to play their role in protecting Iraq from any threats.”
Yesterday, the Washington Post reported that the Iraqi government had requested an extension of the stay of US forces in the country, in light of recent developments in the region after the fall of the Assad regime in Syria.
