The parliamentary Huqooq bloc confirmed on Saturday that it has filed legal appeals with the Federal Court against what it described as the “humiliating Khor Abdullah agreement” and a number of controversial projects, including the Basra-Aqaba pipeline and a foreign-funded project that violates Iraqi sovereignty.
The bloc’s head, MP Saud Al-Saadi, told Al-Maalouma that “the Huqooq bloc submitted a list of appeals against the Council of Ministers’ decision to approve the maritime domain map, as it represents a clear concession of part of Iraq’s maritime sovereignty to Kuwait.” He pointed out that “Khor Abdullah will remain Iraqi, and we will not give up a single inch of our land or water, as it is a trust in our hands.”
Al-Saadi added that “the appeals also included the Basra-Aqaba pipeline project, which we consider a gateway to normalization with the Zionist entity, in addition to objecting to the International Finance Corporation’s attempt to extend its influence over Iraqi airspace, which we categorically reject.”
He pointed out that “the Rights Bloc submitted a detailed report to the Parliament Presidency more than two months ago, containing shocking facts about serious violations and massive waste of public funds in the Basra local government.”
He pointed out that “the report reveals administrative and financial violations related to contracting and central approval mechanisms, and may extend to Basra Governor Asaad Al-Eidani, who is suspected of clear corruption.”
