On Saturday, the Parliamentary Integrity Committee described the government’s decision to seize the funds of corrupt officials in the government of Mustafa Al-Kazemi as a courageous step, indicating that holding the corrupt accountable will end the roots of organized corruption gangs, officials in the previous government.

Committee member Hadi al-Salami said, in a televised interview followed by Al-Maalouma, that “the largest corruption operations take place in the Ministry of Finance, and the Integrity Commission is taking good steps regarding recovering funds and corrupt fugitives.”

He added, “The previous government had great corruption, and it reached the extent of organized crime gangs, as the process of combating corruption is not complete except through coordination between the legislative and executive authorities.”

He explained that “most of the files of corruption in the ministries and provinces are followed up with the Integrity Commission and the Public Prosecution to end it. The best solution to end corruption is to strengthen proactive control before thefts occur.”

Yesterday, Friday, the Integrity Commission announced that it had issued arrest warrants against four officials in the Al-Kazemi government, including the intelligence chief, Raed Jouhi.
