(Baghdad: Al-Furat News) Revealed member of the Commission on Integrity Parliamentary Abdul Rahim Shammari, on Monday, the High Court of Justice to lift the immunity of 5 deputies; to investigate them on issues related to corruption.
“The judiciary asked the parliament to lift the immunity of 5 members {without revealing their names},” noting that “the five deputies accused of corruption issues involving embezzlement of funds and manipulation of projects during executive positions before they get seats in parliament “He said.
He explained that “lifting the immunity of deputies requires either two-thirds of the members of parliament, or there is a right to the President of the parliament to lift the immunity of the MP in the event of Parliament has a legislative holiday.”
It was not immediately clear the position of the parliament speaker of the request, but the House of Representatives enters the legislative holiday early next August.
Article 63 of the Iraqi Constitution states that a member of parliament may not be arrested during the term of the legislative term except with the consent of the members by an absolute majority to lift the immunity.
