Member of the Parliamentary Integrity Committee, Hadi al-Salami, attributed, on Tuesday, the failure to discuss the dollar crisis by the House of Representatives to the refusal of Parliament Speaker Muhammad al-Halbousi despite collecting dozens of signatures.
Al-Salami said, in an interview seen by the “information”, that “the reason for not including the discussion of the dollar exchange rate crisis in the agenda of the parliament session that was held last Saturday or the session to be held today, Tuesday, is the refusal of the Speaker of Parliament to do so, despite the collection of 83 signatures.” In accordance with Article 58 of the Constitution, paragraph first, as well as in accordance with the articles of the House of Representatives internal system.
He explained that “we did not obtain approval during the legislative recess to hold an emergency extraordinary session and to host the governor of the Central Bank to discuss the reasons for the high exchange rate of the dollar.”
And Al-Salami continued, “After the end of the legislative recess, a Saturday session was held, and we obtained the approval of the first and second deputy to preside over the House of Representatives, but the Speaker of the House refused that, and he hosted the governor of the Central Bank in his private office yesterday, the first Sunday.”
