The head of the Parliamentary Finance Committee, Atwan Al-Atwani, announced today, Tuesday, that voting on the budget tables will not exceed next June 9.
Al-Atwani said in a statement to the Iraqi News Agency, which “Al-Ma’aluma” reviewed, that “the 2024 budget tables have arrived at the House of Representatives, specifically in the office of the acting president, and are awaiting their arrival to the Finance Committee,” noting that “the budget is approximately 210 trillion, divided between the current budget of approximately 155 trillion and 55 trillion.” Two trillion investment budget with a deficit of 66 trillion dinars.”
He added, “Our set course for discussing the budget and studying these tables is to review the contents of these tables and study them in detail,” noting that “the first presence of the ministers concerned to discuss the budget will be the Minister of Finance and then the Minister of Planning.”
He stated, “After that, the current and investment budget data will be analyzed, because 55 trillion dinars is a large number, and the increase must be analysed, even if it is slight.”
With regard to the investment budget, Al-Atwani stressed that “the approved mechanism for distributing these amounts, whether to ministries or governorates, is studied and analyzed, after which the report is written and submitted to the House of Representatives, and then the budget tables are presented with the report to the House to vote on,” indicating “the committee’s keenness to complete The mission is as soon as possible, given that we voted on a three-year budget so that the government can work comfortably and not disrupt the schedules.”
He stated, “The budget schedules must be in accordance with the standards and specifications with regard to fair distribution, oil and non-oil revenues, and what is achieved during the 2023 budget. Thus, we combine time pressure, improving budget performance, and producing it in an appropriate manner that facilitates and gives rights to all governorates and ministers,” pointing out that ” Voting on the budget schedules within the Council will not exceed next June 9, due to the ruling legislative holiday.
He stated that “the budget does not take up the legislative scope in the first and second reading, but rather the voting process, which is a task entrusted to the Finance Committee.”
