A member of the Parliamentary Finance Committee, Moeen Al-Kadhimi, confirmed on Thursday that the deficit in the 2024 budget tables amounts to 64 trillion dinars.

Al-Kadhimi said in an interview with Al-Maalouma, “The 2024 budget schedules have reached the Parliamentary Finance Committee and its maximum ceiling is 211 trillion, of which 155 trillion is for operational and 55 trillion for investment, including the projects of the Grand Al-Faw Port, the development road, schools, roads, infrastructure projects, and regional development, pointing out that the amount amounted to a deficit of up to To 64 trillion dinars.

He added, “The Finance Committee will work over the next 7 days in order to reach common convictions that will lead to agreements and tangible changes in the terms of the budget, which will allow it to be presented to the House of Representatives before next June 9, when the legislative recess ends.”

He pointed out that “the committee will work to create flexibility in dealing with the items of the 2024 budget schedules and guarantee the rights of all segments.”

The Presidency of the House of Representatives sent the 2024 budget tables to the Parliamentary Finance Committee in order to continue studying and scrutinizing them before voting on them.
