A member of the Parliamentary Finance Committee, Thamer Theban, suggested, on Wednesday, that the draft federal budget law would reach the House of Representatives in the middle of next week.
In a statement to Al-Maalouma, Theban said, “The government is serious about sending the draft federal budget law for the year 2023 to the House of Representatives.”
He added, “There are calls by the Presidency of the House of Representatives and the Finance Committee of the government to send the budget as soon as possible for approval.”
And he indicated that “the 2023 budget differs from previous budgets, as it is linked to the government program of the government of Prime Minister Muhammad Shia’a al-Sudani,” pointing out that “parliamentary finance seeks to reduce the budget deficit as much as possible, provided that it does not affect the government program.”
He pointed out that “the time limit that he needs to approve the budget, ratify it and publish it in the Official Gazette is about three months from the date of its arrival in the House of Representatives.”
