Shafaq News/ Member of the Parliamentary Finance Committee, Mustafa Sanad, revealed, on Sunday, “legal and political” pressure to amend paragraphs of the budget law for the year 2024, which the Iraqi Parliament voted on last year as a three-year budget for the years (2023, 2024, 2025).
Sanad told Shafaq News Agency, “There are two legal and political pressures to amend the budget law,” pointing out that “there is an article placed in the general budget law that obligates the government to send next year’s schedules over the current year for the purpose of amending them.”
Sanad explained that “political pressure is pressure from the Kurdistan Region and the Prime Minister to amend the item related to the region,” noting that “this amendment will come from the government, but there is no specific date for sending the amendment to the budget law to Parliament.”
Sanad continued, “If the amendment to the budget law reaches the House of Representatives, the House will have many amendments, including the addition of articles, the most important of which is the allocation of job grades, the medical grading file, and the appointments of the top ones in colleges, given that the appointments were related to the 2023 budget and have expired.”
