Member of the Parliamentary Finance Committee, Mustafa Al-Karawi, criticized the government’s financial performance on Saturday, describing the three-year budget as “meager.”
Al-Karawi told Al-Maalouma that “the three-year budget has proven its failure due to its reliance on inaccurate estimates and financial burdens that exceed the state’s ability to bear,” adding that “the government’s inability to meet current financial obligations is a direct result of this ill-considered financial policy.”
He stressed that “the current budget has inflicted severe damage on the national economy and contributed to complicating the financial situation in the country,” affirming that “Parliament will take a stricter oversight stance towards any financial steps that would increase the suffering of citizens.”
He explained that “Parliament had previously warned of the danger of overspending in the three-year budget, but the government ignored those warnings, which caused a critical liquidity crisis that threatens the country’s economic stability.
Observers pointed out that the government’s delay in submitting the current year’s budget schedules exacerbated the financial confusion and had a negative impact on the implementation of projects and service plans, reflecting weakness in the state’s financial management.
