Member of the Parliamentary Finance Committee, Moeen Al-Kadhimi, confirmed on Monday that the government is still not serious about submitting the budget schedules to the House of Representatives. He pointed out that there is a funding deficit for ministries and governorates, which has prompted the government to resort to tax trusts to secure revenues.
Al-Kadhimi told Al-Maalouma, “The federal budget was approved in 2023 for implementation over a three-year period, and the government is required to submit tables amending the previous tables, while the government is not serious about sending them to parliament.”
He added, “The government is working to finance governorate expenditures and projects based on its existing revenues. There is a deficit in the performance of some ministries due to the current lack of funding, so the government must address this issue.”
He explained that “one of the government’s solutions to the lack of financial revenue is to resort to the tax deposits held by the Tax Authority to cover the financial deficit suffered by the government and its federal ministries.”
