Member of the House of Representatives’ Finance Committee, MP Hussein Al-Saabari, confirmed on Wednesday that the budget has not yet been received and that Parliament is awaiting extraordinary sessions.
Al-Saabari told Al-Maalouma News Agency that “the Ministry of Finance and the government have not yet sent any official schedules related to the budget law,” noting that “the House of Representatives is currently in a legislative recess, which complicates the possibility of voting on the budget at the present time.”
He explained that “the information available so far indicates that if the schedules are received from the government, extraordinary sessions will be held to vote on them, in addition to completing the vote on a number of laws delayed due to the suspension of regular sessions.”
He pointed out that “the Finance Committee had requested, during the amendment of Article 12 of the Budget Law, a parallel amendment to Article 14, to include the establishment of contracts and the conversion of daily workers to contracts. However, the amendment was limited to Article 12 only, without including Article 14, which has left the issue without a comprehensive legal treatment until now.”
