Member of the Parliamentary Finance Committee, Moeen Al-Kadhimi, confirmed on Tuesday that the House of Representatives’ approval of the budget tables to be submitted by the government will grant legal legitimacy to government funding and put an end to the legal controversy surrounding spending over the past months.
Al-Kadhimi told Al-Maalouma, “The government is required to submit realistic budget tables that are consistent with oil and non-oil revenues, which should not exceed 140 trillion dinars.” He explained that “if the government submits a budget of up to 150 trillion dinars, the matter will be normal and will be voted on in a single resolution within Parliament, without the need for a first and second reading.”
He added, “Approving the schedules will provide legal cover for government spending, especially given the challenges surrounding spending over the past seven months.”
He pointed out that “the adoption of the schedules will pave the way for the government to launch administrative procedures that have been stalled for a year, such as bonuses, promotions, and academic titles,” stressing that “these rights represent natural entitlements for employees and must be disbursed immediately after the budget is approved.”
