Shafaq News/ On Monday, Mustafa Al-Karawi, a member of the Parliamentary Finance Committee, accused the Iraqi government, headed by Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani, of violating the federal budget law and failing to abide by its provisions, particularly with regard to sending financial tables to the House of Representatives.
Al-Karawi told Shafaq News Agency, “The government violated Article 77 of the Budget Law, which requires the Federal Council of Ministers to send the schedules to the House of Representatives before the end of the fiscal year.” He pointed out that “failure to comply with this article led to delays in disbursing employees’ dues, including bonuses, job promotions, and the calculation of certificates.”
He stressed that “the issuance of bonuses and promotions is linked to the completion of the budget schedules, at a time when there is no concrete date yet for their completion and submission by the Cabinet to the House of Representatives.”
The Parliamentary Finance Committee expects Iraq’s 2025 budget bill to be submitted to Parliament in early July, after the Ministry of Finance completes its comments and submits them to the Council of Ministers.
The committee demands that the budget not exceed 150 trillion dinars, in line with the revenues achieved.
Observers believe that the continued delay in approving the budget negatively impacts financial stability and services, amid legal warnings that delaying disbursements constitutes a form of administrative corruption.
