Today, Sunday (August 16, 2020), the Parliament’s Finance Committee suggested that the draft budget law for 2021 will be sent next month, while it revealed the most important provisions for the 2020 budget that the government intends to send to Parliament.

The committee’s reporter, Ahmed Al-Saffar, said in an interview with (Baghdad Today) that “sending the draft budget law for the remainder of the coming months of 2020 is a good procedure, and we have demanded it for some time,” noting that “this helps the government to act within the framework.” Legal. ”

He pointed out that “the budget for the remaining months of 2020, even if it is brief, includes spending during the past months, projected spending for the coming months, government revenues and the remaining revenues for the coming months,” must be sent to Parliament.

He revealed, saying, “The sent budget will focus on the operational side only,” noting that “there is not enough time to implement investment projects in the current budget, so it will be limited to providing salaries and ration card items, and providing medicines and other expenses to the government.”

Al-Saffar welcomed “the government’s decision to send the budget for the remainder of the months of 2020,” noting that “the transmission was supposed to be early, but sending the budget late is better than not sending it.”

Regarding next year’s budget, the decision of the Finance Committee suggested “sending the draft budget for 2021 after a month or more.”

Prior to that, Minister of Planning, Khaled Battal, confirmed that the government would send a draft budget law for the remainder of this year.

He added that “the government is obligated to appoint all cadres to whom the medical graduation law applies.”

The House of Representatives voted on Wednesday (03 June 2020) on the form of a resolution obliging the Iraqi government to send the 2020 budget law during the month of June.

A parliamentary source said, in an interview with (Baghdad Today), “The House of Representatives voted on the wording of a resolution requiring the government to expedite sending the draft federal budget bill for the year 2020, no later than the end of last June.”

He added, “The House of Representatives has completed the first reading of the draft law on domestic and external borrowing to finance the fiscal deficit for 2020.”

It is worth noting that the sending of the federal budget for the year 2020 by the government to Parliament has been delayed due to the continuous protests since last October, which led to the resignation of the previous government headed by Adel Abdul Mahdi and its transformation into a caretaker government whose powers are not to send the draft fiscal budget law To Parliament.
