Member of the Parliamentary Finance Committee, Mustafa Al-Karawi, confirmed today, Tuesday, that Parliament discussed proposals to solve the problems related to Article 12 of the Budget Law, which is related to the costs of extracting oil in the Kurdistan Region.

Al-Karawi said in a statement to Al-Maalouma Agency, “Parliament has put forward proposals to address the problems related to Article 12 regarding the costs of extracting oil in the Kurdistan Region,” noting that “the region is being financed at $16 per barrel without revealing the real extraction costs.”

He added, “Voting on the extraction costs text may delay the approval of the budget schedules until the end of the parliamentary session, which means that the government may proceed with adopting schedules proposed by it without the approval of Parliament,” calling for “adherence to the constitutional timings for voting on the budget schedules.”

He said, “Many of the budget texts need to be amended to ensure justice in the legislation of the law,” expressing his hope that “the political forces will adopt the amendments to the budget law in a fair manner and in accordance with the current constitution.”

It is noteworthy that the House of Representatives previously hosted Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani and his deputies, the Minister of Planning, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, and the Minister of Interior, where the amendments to the budget for next year 2025 were discussed.
