Today, Thursday, the Oil, Gas and Natural Resources Committee clarified the fact that there are political differences over the oil and gas law, and while confirming that the Kurdistan region is not suitable for the presence of a law regulating the oil wealth in the country, it indicated the continuation of talks on it.

A member of the committee, Zainab al-Moussawi, said in an interview with the information agency, that “there are some disagreements about the oil and gas law, but this time by the Kurdistan region,” noting that “the administration of the region is not suitable for a law that regulates the oil wealth in the country.”

She added, “The discussions are continuing, and soon a formula will be produced that reveals the strength of the Iraqi government regarding oil wealth and its fair distribution among the Iraqi people.”

A member of the Parliamentary Oil Committee explained, “Kurdistan does not want to pass a law controlled by the federal government, since its lands are within Iraq, and they returned it with legal revenues to Baghdad.”

Earlier, the representative of the coordination framework, Jassem Atwan, stressed the importance of negotiating between the various political parties to reach compromises regarding the oil and gas law, pointing out that the enactment of the law would eliminate differences, differences and privileges over the distribution of oil wealth.

The oil and gas law is one of the issues that raised controversy between Erbil and Baghdad for many years, but it was agreed to approve this draft law between the two parties within the framework of a political agreement that led to the formation of the current government.
