Today, Sunday, a member of the House of Representatives, Thaer al-Jubouri, considered holding legislative elections within a year as “unnecessary,” while stressing that the government’s approach, which included early elections, falls within the reform.

Al-Jubouri said, in an interview with Al-Maalouma Agency, that “what was included in the ministerial platform of the government of Muhammad Shia’a al-Sudani regarding holding early elections within one year falls within the framework of reform.”

He added, “The Prime Minister’s steps are reformist so far,” noting that “Al-Sudani has hit some joints of corruption since assuming government duties.”

The member of the House of Representatives explained, “The sessions of the House of Representatives are proceeding normally, and laws are enacted in a constitutional and legal manner, and we are on the verge of reading important laws, on top of which is the 2023 budget bill,” adding, “This shows that early elections are unnecessary.”

And Makhaif indicated that “holding early elections needs a period of one year or a year and a half from the date of their initiation,” noting that “the time set by the Sudanese is not sufficient.”

The leader in the coordination framework, Jamal Hassan, had confirmed that the idea of holding early parliamentary elections in the country had become out of the question, especially with the growing rejection or postponement of it by 6 political forces, most notably the Framework, the Sovereignty, the Barzani and Talabani alliances, and nearly 90% of the independent deputies with their different addresses.
