Parliamentarian indicates consensus on expelling US forces confirms imminent lifting of immunityInformation/Baghdad…
Member of the Parliamentary Integrity Committee, Ali Turki, indicated today, Monday, that there is a parliamentary consensus on expelling American forces from Iraq and lifting their immunity.

Turki said in an interview with Al-Maalouma, “The session to legislate the law to expel foreign forces was initially deliberative and was attended by most of the Shiite component representatives, but after that there was a movement by the parties of the framework and the State Administration Coalition to gather a unified political position and legislate the law.”

He added, “The current political position is unified and not as announced in the media that some want the coalition forces to remain, and this was clearly evident in the statements of some Sunni and Kurdish leaders that they are with the decision of the Iraqi government wherever it may be,” indicating that “the government’s decision has become clear that there is no need for the presence of foreign forces on Iraqi soil.”

He pointed out that “the political components authorized the government to negotiate with the American side.”

He continued by saying, “The government in 2014 granted immunity to American soldiers, and we seek through this law to lift immunity from the presence of American forces,” stressing that “without this immunity, there will be no approval even from the American side to remain in Iraqi territory, and we have begun to reach advanced stages regarding this paragraph.”
