Shafaq News/ The head of the National Hopes parliamentary bloc, Yasser Al-Husseini, called on Thursday not to vote on the contract between the Iraqi General Air Navigation Company and the International Finance Corporation.
Al-Hussaini explained during a press conference held in the parliament building, which was attended by a Shafaq News Agency correspondent, that “the International Finance Corporation is one of five institutions that make up the World Bank, and that passing such contracts affects Iraq’s sovereignty, its money, and future generations.”
Al-Hussaini called on the “members of the Board of Directors of the Iraqi General Air Navigation Company appointed by the Ministry not to have reservations and not to vote against such contracts, so that we may all enjoy this security, as the study prepared by the Advisory Board based on the recommendation of its Chairman is humiliating, as it indicates the neglect of Iraqi law and the reliance on arbitration in Britain.”
He pointed out that “the pretexts for establishing such contracts were based on building a passenger lounge at Baghdad International Airport, where there are four lounges, two of which are operating and two of which have been closed since the day the airport was established due to lack of need and lack of passengers. The contract also exempts (IFC) from any accident or error committed by them and obliges Iraq to compensate.”
Al-Hussaini continued, “The General Company for Air Navigation has the great capabilities and competencies that have managed the work since the opening of the airport until today without recording any accident or technical or technological error. This procedure is also contrary to the recommendations of the decisions of the Supreme Security Committee responsible for investigating the incident of the martyrdom of the leaders of victory, which recommended the expulsion of the companies operating at Baghdad International Airport.”
Al-Hussaini called on the Advisory Board to “not interfere negatively in this matter.”
