Parliament threatens to summon Al-Zidi and the Central Bank Governor over dollar instability

Member of Parliament Ahmed al-Moussawi warned on Monday of the continued fluctuations in the dollar exchange rate on the parallel market, stressing that Parliament intends to summon Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi and the Governor of the Central Bank if they fail to control the markets within a short period.
Al-Moussawi told the Information Agency, “The exchange rate of the US dollar on the parallel market continues to fluctuate significantly, causing a sharp decline in the sale of goods and commodities due to the lack of stability compared to the official rate.” He pointed out that “government measures and mechanisms for monitoring the local market remain weak and below the required level.”
He added that “Parliament is deeply concerned about the continuation of this situation, which has directly harmed ordinary citizens, especially given the scarcity of essential goods and their high prices.”
Al-Moussawi emphasized that “the legislative authority will not stand idly by and will request to summon Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi and the Governor of the Central Bank to Parliament if the relevant authorities fail to impose stability and control over the parallel market within a short period.”
