Member of the Parliamentary Finance Committee, MP Moeen Al-Kadhimi, confirmed on Wednesday that the visit of Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani two days ago to the House of Representatives discussed the speed of sending the budget tables for the year, noting that Al-Sudani requested an extension of the legislative session to enable the sending of the budget tables.
Al-Kadhimi said in a statement to Al-Maalouma Agency, “During the Prime Minister’s visit two days ago to the House of Representatives to congratulate Al-Mashhadani, the government’s acceleration in preparing and sending the budget tables for next year was discussed,” indicating that “Al-Sudani asked the parliament to extend its legislative session to enable the government to send the budget, and the extension was approved on the condition that the government be obligated to send the tables before the end of this year, and this has embarrassed the government by sending the table before the end of this year.”
He added, “The Parliamentary Finance Committee hopes that the budget amounts will be realistic, practical, and not exaggerated, and will not exceed 150 trillion according to our expectations for revenues for next year, calling for “the budget to be within this ceiling and not to repeat what happened in the previous budget.”
It is noteworthy that the revenues of the 2024 budget amounted to “144 trillion and 336 billion dinars, while expenditures amounted to 210 trillion and 936 billion dinars, with the deficit amounting to 63 trillion and 599 billion dinars.”
