In conjunction with the rise of American voices calling for granting licenses in favor of organizations that encourage promiscuity and homosexuality, the Parliamentary Legal Committee confirms its intention to introduce legislation to protect society from negative phenomena supported by the West.

A member of the Legal Committee, Aref Al-Hamami, said in a statement to Al-Maalouma, “His committee hopes to pass a law to criminalize anyone who promotes and supports deviant paths.”

Al-Hamami added, “All political blocs support the enactment of a law that criminalizes homosexuality, deviant acts, drugs and other negative phenomena.”

Regarding Eid al-Ghadir, al-Hamami stated, “The national and sectarian spirit is what delays the enactment of the law on official holidays and events and the inclusion of Eid al-Ghadir as a national holiday in it.”

Meanwhile, a member of the popular legal movement, Ahmed Shahid Al-Shammari, accuses the US Embassy of encouraging the dissemination of deviant ideas in Iraq, calling on all government institutions to confront them and immunize young people from these intrusive ideas.

Al-Shammari said in an interview with Al-Maalouma Agency, “The American embassy in Baghdad is the biggest threat to the national cohesion of Iraqi society.”

He added, “The West and America in general, after their inability to create the experience of normalization, because they found the Iraqi people rejecting the Zionist entity, they returned to seize the new generations by broadcasting programs (homosexuality).”

He pointed out that “the US embassy is the biggest and most dangerous supporter in spreading deviant ideas among young people and working to give scholarships.”

He pointed out that “there are Iraqi organizations placed at the disposal of the US embassy whose aim is to promote, propaganda and sponsor deviant projects in the country,” calling on “governmental and oversight agencies to stand up to the American project in Iraq.”

The Parliamentary Security and Defense Committee had warned of the consequences of the continued American presence in Iraq, indicating that the American project was striking the Iraqi societal belief.

Legal expert Ali Al-Tamimi explains the legal penalties for same-sex marriage or the practice of homosexuality, pointing out that some penalties amount to death and others to imprisonment and fines.

Al-Tamimi told Al-Maalouma, “The punishment for homosexuality in early Islam is burning, throwing from a high place, or beheading. In the Iraqi Penal Code, Article 393 punished the death penalty for these crimes, as well as Law 8 of 1988, which punished prostitution crimes with imprisonment.”

He added, “Law No. 234 of 2001 punished adultery, sodomy, and brokering with death, and also Articles 215 and 220 punished with imprisonment and a fine for defaming the country’s reputation with such crimes.”

And he indicated that “raising homosexual flags above the flags of the embassies of countries in Iraq, as this violates Articles 9, 10, 11, and 41 of the Vienna Convention of 1961 on diplomatic relations, and Iraq has the right to object to it and request its removal.”

He pointed out that “such crimes bring God’s curse at a time when people are in need of His mercy in light of the spread of diseases and epidemics that have descended on the world because of corruption and such crimes.”
