Pakistan’s Interior Minister said on Tuesday, at the conclusion of a visit to Iran, that the two countries had made “significant progress” in talks focused on the US-Israeli war on the Islamic Republic and a path towards peace. A statement issued by the Pakistani army regarding the meeting held between Army Chief Asim Munir and the Iranian leadership stated that the talks between the two sides focused on measures to prevent further escalation, reopen the Strait of Hormuz, and end the conflict as quickly as possible.
The statement added that the two sides exchanged views on regional peace and the way to reach a settlement to the conflict through negotiation.
Interior Minister Mohsen Naqvi, who accompanied Munir to Tehran, stated in a post on the X platform: “The Iranian president frankly shared his government’s viewpoint, and we had very constructive discussions on relevant issues.” He continued, “Pakistan and Iran discussed reactivating the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding aimed at settling the conflict in the region,” noting that “the meeting with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian ended on a very positive note.”
Following a meeting with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian yesterday, Pakistani Army Chief Asim Munir indicated that “to achieve common goals and reach a comprehensive agreement, it is necessary to discuss and study diplomatic processes very carefully,” stressing that his country “will continue its role as a mediator with all determination.”
He added that Pakistan believes that the end of the crisis will be “the beginning of a new chapter of comprehensive cooperation towards reconstruction, regional development and the achievement of collective security.”
