Outperforming Bolt: Chinese robot breaks world record in 100m race

A Chinese humanoid robot broke the human world record in the 100-meter race, covering the distance in 9.32 seconds, surpassing the record held by Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt.
China’s state broadcaster reported on Saturday that the “Lightning” robot, developed by Chinese smartphone maker Honor, achieved this time during a preparatory test for the second World Games of Humanoid Robots, which kicks off today.
The robot’s maximum speed during the test was 14.5 meters per second, making its time less than the world record for the men’s 100-meter race, which is 9.58 seconds and has been held by Bolt since 2009.
This achievement comes amid growing Chinese competition in the field of developing humanoid robots, and their increasing participation in sports tests aimed at measuring their mobility, speed, and endurance.
