The US administration continues its clear and public interventions in Iraq’s internal affairs in many areas and sectors, especially the economic ones, to ensure gains for the Trump administration by imposing dictates and decisions that guarantee its interests within Iraq. This has faced a number of warnings and criticisms regarding such attempts to impose control and dominance over Iraqi decision-making, especially the country’s economic aspect, at a time when the US Federal Reserve controls Iraqi oil imports.
Hussain al-Karawi, head of the organizing committee for the Popular Movement for the Belt and Road Initiative, told Al-Maalomah that “the government reshuffle is not without American interference, especially since these changes have affected the Central Bank and the National Security Service, as America seeks economic and security control over Iraq.”
He added that “America’s interference in the matter of replacing the head of the National Security Service, Abu Ali al-Basri, stems from the fact that this figure achieved great success in the role he held during his tenure, eliminating many criminals and proving his competence in pursuing terrorists and agents of the Zionist entity.”
He indicated that “replacing the aforementioned officials may be the beginning of imposing dictates on those who succeeded al-Basri, al-Araji, and al-Alaq.”
For his part, former MP Mohammed Ibrahim explained to Al-Maalomah that “the formation of the current government was subject to pressure from the American side, which was behind the political disputes between the various blocs and parties regarding the cabinet.”
He added, “The American pressure exerted on Iraq is greater than the political disagreements between the various parties and blocs. Therefore, the delay in finalizing the cabinet is due to these interventions.”
He pointed out that “al-Zaidi’s assurances that the cabinet will be completed before going to the United States confirm that Washington has imposed conditions on the selection of names or the type of individuals who will fill the vacant ministerial portfolios, especially those related to security, such as defense and interior, as well as the intelligence and national security agencies.”
In a related context, political analyst Saeed al-Badri told Al-Maalomah, “The Iraqi government must take steps that transcend the imposed routine in its relations with the United States and other countries, moving towards rejecting American dictates and interference in Iraq’s internal affairs.”
He continued, “Submitting to and accepting American interventions and policies towards Iraq will ultimately lead to paying a very heavy price, as has happened in the past, making it imperative to avoid repeating the same scenario.”
He added: “America is planning to ensure its control over Iraq by taking a series of decisions that guarantee this control, especially decisions related to economic matters and issues concerning Iraq and its people.”
