State of Law Coalition member Mohammed al-Ziyadi confirmed on Sunday that the House of Representatives is moving toward voting on the three-year budget agenda within the next few days. This step, he described as “necessary” given its direct connection to the current fiscal year and its impact on the economic reality of Iraqi citizens.
Al-Zayadi told Al-Maalouma News Agency that “the Ministry of Finance does not have the authority to revise the draft budget, but it expressed concern about the possibility of oil prices falling below the budgeted price of $70 per barrel, prompting it to prepare new schedules to avoid any potential financial crisis.”
He stressed that “amending these tables does not mean re-approving the entire budget, but only requires parliamentary approval in accordance with established constitutional mechanisms,” noting that “the tables will be presented to council members for review in preparation for a vote.”
He added, “Parliament is studying the option of extending the legislative session to ensure the passage of amendments to the schedules, given their utmost importance in supporting financial stability and fulfilling the state’s obligations to its citizens.”
