The White House announced Thursday that President Barack Obama and Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan stressed the support agreement “possible between Baghdad and Erbil” in resolving the dispute of oil.
According to a White House statement said that “Obama phoned Erdogan, and discussed the dispute between Arbil and Baghdad on oil exports, and stressed the support of a possible deal between the two sides.”
The statement noted that “the two sides stressed the importance of supporting the agreement to be reached between Baghdad and Erbil, and encourage, in order to find common ground between them in energy issues.”
The Deputy Prime Minister for Energy Hussain al-Shahristani has said yesterday that “the Kurds have agreed to export crude oil through the State Oil Marketing Organization SOMO,” stressing that “This step is important to walk forward, and resolve the problem of the export of oil in Iraq,” but quickly denied it Kurdistan Regional Government confirmed the failure to reach “any form of agreement regarding the export of oil to the outside of the Kurdistan region by SOMO.”
It is noteworthy that a severe crisis erupted between Baghdad and Erbil on the back to stop the Kurdistan region in April 2012 to pump oil until further notice because of disagreements with Baghdad on the financial dues to oil companies operating in it.
