The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) confirmed on Wednesday that it has not recorded any increase in radiation levels in the Middle East so far, despite escalating regional tensions.
The agency stated that “the nuclear power plants in the United Arab Emirates and the research reactors in both Jordan and Syria are still operating normally.”
She explained that she is “in constant contact with national nuclear safety authorities in the Middle East region,” confirming that “there is currently no increase in radiation levels.”
Regarding Iran, the agency noted that it “has not detected any damage to facilities containing nuclear materials so far, but confirmed damage to two buildings near the Isfahan nuclear site,” without providing further details on the nature of this damage.
The International Atomic Energy Agency announced on Tuesday that damage had occurred to buildings at Iran’s underground nuclear fuel enrichment plant in Natanz, but stressed that no radioactive effects were expected as a result of the incident.
The United States and Israel have been launching missile attacks on Iran for days, targeting government headquarters, resulting in the death of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, several members of his family, and senior Iranian commanders, while Iran responded with strikes on Israeli targets, several Gulf states, and American interests in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region.
