Shafaq News/ An official source in the Iraqi Prime Ministry revealed, on Sunday, that the Prime Minister, Muhammad Shia’ al-Sudani, is visiting the United States of America, to discuss several files.
The source told Shafaq News agency, “Al-Sudani intends to visit the United States of America during the next stage, and there is coordination in this matter with the US Embassy in Baghdad, and Al-Sudani’s meetings with the US Ambassador, Alina Romanowski, discussed this matter several times, and there is no American objection or reservation about Al-Sudani’s visit and his meeting with US President Joe Biden and officials at the White House.
And the source, who asked not to be named, stated that “the failure to set a date for Al-Sudani’s visit to America is due to the political situation that Washington is going through because of the atmosphere of the elections there, and during the coming days, an official suit will be submitted to Al-Sudani to visit America, and after this invitation is sent, the date of the visit will be determined.” .
He added, “Al-Sudani’s visit to the United States of America is protocol, but it is not without discussing the joint security file between Baghdad and Washington, especially with the presence of an escalation by the armed factions against the American presence in Iraq. This file will top Al-Sudani’s discussions at the White House, in addition to the political file in Iraq and the region in general.
The source pointed out that “Al-Sudani intends, during his visit, to present a new Iraqi initiative to bridge views between Tehran and Washington, especially since there is support for such a step by the Islamic Republic of Iran.”
