CBS News, citing shipping data, reported on Wednesday that 71% of the ships that passed through the Strait of Hormuz are linked to Iran or are part of its “shadow fleet” associated with its oil.
The data stated that “Iranian shadow fleet vessels accounted for about 88% of total transits in the Strait of Hormuz last week, indicating the growing role of this fleet in maritime traffic in the region.”
The Strait of Hormuz is a vital energy transit route, through which about one-fifth of the world’s oil passed before the outbreak of war in Iran. The strait was closed to commercial ships on March 2nd.
