American businessman Elon Musk announced that SpaceX will build cities on the Moon and Mars in the coming decades.
Musk wrote on the X platform: “For those who were unaware, SpaceX has already shifted its focus to building a self-sufficient city on the Moon, which we can achieve in less than 10 years… SpaceX will also seek to build a city on Mars, and will begin doing so in approximately 5 to 7 years.”
Musk pointed out that “journeys to Mars will only be possible during periods when the planets of the solar system are perfectly aligned, every 26 months, and that the journey itself will take six months.”
He added that “rockets could be launched to the moon every 10 days, and the journey would take only two days, allowing for the construction of a city on the moon much faster.”
Musk estimates that “building a city on the surface of Mars will take more than 20 years.”
This statement comes after Musk warned yesterday that the global energy infrastructure could collapse in less than three years, as a result of the enormous pressure that the rapid expansion of artificial intelligence systems is putting on terrestrial electricity grids.
Musk also unveiled an unprecedented plan to move a crucial portion of computing power into space.
It includes launching one million small satellites into low orbit, equipped with central processing units powered directly by solar energy, taking advantage of the stability of solar radiation in outer space.
SpaceX is an American space technology company founded by Musk in 2002.
