Muhammad Allawi is under pressure to keep 4 ministers from the Abdul Mahdi government
FEBRUARY 8, 2020
On Saturday, former Deputy Jassem Al-Bayati revealed that there was political pressure on Prime Minister-designate Muhammad Tawfiq Allawi to keep four ministers from the Adel Abdul-Mahdi government in the cabinet.
Al-Bayati said that “the political blocs seek to keep the ministers of planning, oil, electricity and foreign affairs in their positions during the government of Muhammad Tawfiq Allawi.”
He added that “the Kurdistan Democratic Party flatly refused to name independents in the next government and seeks to obtain the same ministries in the current government as well as to stabilize the proportions of the region in the budget.”
Al-Bayati added, “The word of independent ministers in Allawi’s government is not certain, as everyone seeks to name loyal or close ministers from Al-Fateh and others and the Iraqi Forces and Kurdistan Democratic Union.”
