MP Mohammed Anouz confirmed on Sunday that the recent oil agreement between the federal government and the Kurdistan Regional Government, despite its importance, came late, stressing that the coming months will be the real test of the seriousness of both parties in implementing its provisions and resolving outstanding issues between them.
Anouz told Al-Maalouma Agency, “The oil agreement between Baghdad and Erbil is an important step towards regulating the relationship between the two parties, but it came late, and its success will be judged by the extent of both sides’ commitment to implementing it in the coming period.” He added that “the financial relationship between the central government and the region does not depend on the oil export issue alone, but also includes non-oil revenues and their distribution mechanisms, in addition to the issue of salaries for regional employees and the federal government’s handling of it.”
He added that “the reference to the agreement at the present time came without clear details, which is repeated in most of the outstanding issues that parliament suffers from a lack of transparency regarding,” noting that “this ambiguity requires the government to provide precise clarifications about the implementation mechanisms and executive stages of the agreement.”
Anouz stressed that the next phase will reveal the seriousness of Baghdad and Erbil in addressing the economic and financial issues in a radical manner, stressing that the success of the oil agreement will contribute to ending the state of financial tension and pave the way for a more stable relationship between the two parties if each party adheres to its rights and obligations.
