Member of Parliament Zahra Al-Bajari ruled out on Sunday the government’s response to demands from some political blocs regarding the return of the two draft Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) laws to parliament, despite official statements that spoke of postponing them until after the elections.
Al-Bajari said in a statement to Al-Maalouma, “The government’s withdrawal of the two draft PMF laws related to salaries, retirement, and structure came for internal and external reasons aimed at preventing their passage during the current session.”
She added, “Despite the government’s announcement through National Security Advisor Qasim Al-Araji that the two laws would be postponed until after the upcoming parliamentary elections, some political blocs are still pressing to re-introduce and pass them before the end of the session.”
She indicated that she “rules out the government’s response to these demands at the present time,” indicating that “its position is clear in not proceeding with the passage of the two laws during the current phase.”
It is noteworthy that National Security Advisor Qasim Al-Araji stated earlier that the chancellery had proposed postponing the vote on the PMF law until after the elections, adding: “Don’t ask me why.”
