Member of Parliament, Muhammad Al-Ziyadi, confirmed on Saturday that the oil contracts granted by the government of Prime Minister Muhammad Shia Al-Sudani exclusively to American companies involve two main aspects, the first being the government’s weakness in the face of external pressures, and the second being its attempt to obtain Washington’s support for a second term, which he considered unlikely.

Al-Ziyadi told Al-Maalouma News Agency that “the recent oil contracts granted to American companies came as a result of political pressure exerted by the American administration with the aim of dominating the most important economic sector in Iraq, and linking Iraqi political and economic decisions to it, in addition to achieving huge profits for those companies.”

He added that “the other aspect is the weakness of the Sudanese government in the face of these dictates, as a result of its desire to obtain American support for a second term, but this will not happen, just as it did not happen for his predecessors who sought the same goal.”

It is worth noting that the Sudanese government recently signed several contracts with American companies, including Chevron, to develop four exploration blocks in Nasiriyah and the Balad oil field, in addition to a contract with Excelerate to implement the floating natural gas platform project in Basra, as part of the government’s plans to increase foreign investment in the energy sector.
