MP Salem Ibrahim confirmed on Sunday that deciding on the presidency of the House of Representatives after the end of the Arbaeen visit is possible if three conditions are met.
Ibrahim said in an interview with / Al-Maalouma /, “All political forces, including the Coordination Framework, agree on the necessity of deciding on the nomination of a candidate for the position of Speaker of the House of Representatives, but there is a difference in opinions about the ways to reach it, as it is a Sunni entitlement and requires the forces that represent it to put forward a consensus candidate before the rest of the forces or agree on a mechanism to resolve the matter.”
He added that “deciding on the presidency of the House of Representatives after the end of the Arbaeen visit is possible if three conditions are met: an agreement between the Sunni forces to put forward a consensus candidate, or returning to finish the third round and leaving the choice to the members of the House, or the withdrawal of any of the candidates,” noting that “Sunni-Sunni consensus is very important.”
He pointed out that “the House of Representatives is determined to end this knot during the coming period, and we hope that there will be a Sunni-Sunni consensus on an objective and fair solution.”
It is noteworthy that the Sunni-Sunni differences are what hindered for months the decision to nominate a candidate for the position of Speaker of the House of Representatives.
