MP Mukhtar al-Moussawi confirmed on Monday that the dialogues on ending the parliamentary presidency crisis are ongoing.
Al-Moussawi said in an interview with Al-Maalouma, “The dialogues between the political forces, including the Sunnis, are ongoing in light of the active movement that began a few days ago in order to reach an agreement that is now looming on the horizon with the intervention of some parties in order to reach an equal vision between the Sunni forces.”
He added, “The results of the dialogues may emerge clearly this evening, whether by holding an emergency session tomorrow or during the coming days or delaying it until next week, but according to the readings, there are things that have been achieved in light of the desire of most Sunni parties to make a decision.”
He pointed out that “Mahmoud Al-Mashhadani is the closest so far to winning the position of Speaker of the House of Representatives, but we are waiting for the political consensus that will determine the date of the session to proceed with the vote.”
It is noteworthy that Sunni-Sunni differences were behind the delay in deciding the vote on a candidate for the position of Speaker of the House of Representatives.
