MP denies blocking $500 million from Iraq: No sanctions, no restrictions

MP Jamal Kojar denied on Wednesday the validity of the news circulating about preventing Iraq from receiving $500 million of its oil revenues, stressing that there are no sanctions or restrictions by the US Federal Reserve on the country.
Kujer told Al-Furat News Agency: “We contacted the Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Iraq, and he confirmed to us that the information that speaks of preventing Iraq from receiving $500 million of its oil revenues is false, and that relations with the US Federal Reserve are good.”
Kujer explained that “the reality is that it is difficult to transfer funds from the United States to Iraq because of the suspension of air transport,” stressing that “this is the only obstacle and there are no procedures, sanctions or anything else.”
The Prime Minister’s financial advisor, Mazhar Muhammad Saleh, explained in a statement to Al-Furat News Agency that there is a fundamental difference between cash dollars allocated to travelers and financing foreign trade through banking channels, indicating that what is being circulated in some circles is only related to a very limited part of the demand for dollars, not exceeding about 5%, which is related to meeting the needs of travelers in cash.
