MP Hussein Al-Saabari warned, on Tuesday, that the continued disruption of the House of Representatives sessions due to the lack of quorum poses a direct threat to the course of legislative work, and may lead to the final dissolution of Parliament if the crisis continues without radical solutions.
Al-Saabari said in a statement to / Al-Maalouma / agency, that “the continued problem of the lack of quorum and holding parliamentary sessions constitutes a real embarrassment and obstructs the course of legislative work,” stressing “the need to find a quick solution to this matter.”
He added: “We have repeatedly demanded that this problem be addressed, but as is known, the number of members of the current House of Representatives affects the achievement of the legal quorum, even if I submit an official request in this regard, I am one of a group of representatives working to achieve the same goal.”
He explained: “If the sessions are not held regularly, it will be necessary to move towards the option of dissolving the Council.”
He pointed out that “there are ongoing efforts by a number of representatives to reach a decisive decision on this issue, in a way that ensures the continuity of legislative work and does not disrupt important laws that affect the lives of citizens.”
It is noteworthy that the House of Representatives has not held its session for more than a month due to political differences between some blocs opposing the service and retirement law for the Popular Mobilization Authority, which led to the lack of the legal quorum necessary to hold the session.
