The Ministry of Oil announced on Sunday that the Basra Gas Export Terminal received the largest semi-refrigerated liquid gas tanker in its history, scheduled for export to China. The Ministry stated in a statement that “the second berth at the Basra Gas Company’s liquid gas export terminal received the largest gas tanker in its history, as the GasChem tanker, 188 meters long and with a capacity of 20,000 tons of semi-refrigerated liquid gas, docked, scheduled for export to China. This marks a major achievement for Iraq and the company in the field of liquid gas exports.”
The statement added, “The second berth was fully rehabilitated and entered service in September of last year, with its waterfront being deepened to allow it to accommodate giant tankers, a move that reflects the company’s growing export capabilities.”
He pointed out that “since 2016, Iraq, through the Basra Gas Company, has succeeded in meeting domestic needs for cooking gas (LPG) and exporting the surplus, thus contributing to supporting the national economy and diversifying its sources.”
He continued, “We were also able to double associated gas production from 250 million standard cubic feet per day to more than one billion standard cubic feet per day, which contributed to reducing emissions and limiting the waste of the country’s natural resources.”
