The Ministry of Interior announced on Thursday the details of the security plan for Christmas and New Year celebrations, while indicating that strict measures will be taken against violations. The head of the Department of Relations and Media at the Ministry, Brigadier General Miqdad Miri, told the official agency that “the Ministry has put in place a comprehensive security plan to secure the New Year celebrations in Baghdad and all governorates.”
He also explained that “the plan pays special attention to the provinces with a large Christian population, where celebrations will begin on the 25th of this month,” noting that “other provinces will also be included with comprehensive security plans to ensure a safe environment for the celebrations.” He emphasized that “the plan does not include any traffic closures,” adding that “the measures will be limited to the deployment of security patrols.”
He added that “some illegal practices are prohibited, and the Directorate for Combating Economic Crime has been tasked with taking strict measures against violators.”
