Ministry of Industry: Solar panel factory will meet local market needs with export potential

The Ministry of Industry and Minerals announced on Friday the establishment of an integrated factory for the production of solar panels in Iraq, noting that the production capacity amounts to 750 megawatts annually, while stressing that the solar panels will cover the needs of the local market with the possibility of export. Ministry spokeswoman Duha Al-Jubouri stated to the official agency that “the ministry has concluded a partnership contract through Al-Zawraa State Company to establish an integrated factory equipped with modern machinery and technology to manufacture solar panels of various capacities and high efficiencies, to serve governmental, industrial, commercial and domestic projects in the field of clean energy.”
He also explained that “the proposed production capacity of the plant is 750 megawatts annually, which will contribute to meeting the needs of the local market, in addition to the possibility of expanding into neighboring regional markets.”
She added, “All future solar power plant projects will be implemented using solar panels manufactured in Iraq by Al-Zawraa State Company. These panels will form the core for building large power plants, as well as small industrial, commercial, and home power plants.”
She also noted that “the establishment of this local factory represents an important step toward localizing the solar energy systems industry and achieving added manufacturing value that contributes to reducing production costs, enhancing citizens’ ability to purchase solar energy systems that compete with imported panels in terms of price and efficiency.”
She also noted that “this project aligns with the government’s efforts to support national industries and foster a culture of transitioning to clean energy, in conjunction with the Central Bank of Iraq’s initiative to finance home, commercial, and industrial solar power plants, in which Al-Zawraa State Company actively participated.”
