The Ministry of Defense announced on Saturday that the priority is currently to strengthen air defense and arm the air force, while noting that 6 new French aircraft will arrive by the end of this year to enhance air defense. The Director of the Media and Moral Guidance Directorate at the Ministry of Defense, Tahseen Al-Khafaji, told the official agency that “the most important contracts that were contracted during the past period and are expected to be received by the end of this year and the beginning of next year are in the field of the air force, army aviation, air defense and other naval and land fields.”
He also pointed out that “the priorities now are air defense and important weapons for the air force,” explaining that “air defense has acquired very advanced French radars that deal with all challenges.”
He added, “We will receive advanced aircraft before the end of this year, completing the arrival of 6 French Caracar aircraft, which play a major and important role in supporting the security forces.” He continued, “In another area, we have cooperation with South Korea, which is advanced in air defense, and at the beginning of next year, medium-range batteries will arrive as an air defense weapon, which will add a strong and excellent addition to the air defense.”
He also explained that “there is a lot of work being done in the field of arming aircraft with very high capabilities in the field of enabling them to work in partnership with the airspace, and this development is a result of the Ministry of Defense’s insistence on possessing the finest weapons according to the capabilities and capacities.”
He pointed out that “there is great support from the Iraqi government through the provision of very large sums of money for armament in order to diversify our capabilities, which meets our requirements and needs while facing challenges.”
